Boulder, Colorado, Feb 27, 2003 - Geomenon™ Inc. today announced today that it has filed two patent applications with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office for technology that dramatically improves 3D model interoperability. The patent applications focus on unique approaches for interactively finding and removing CAD database errors, data inefficiencies, and reliably removing connectivity errors involving free-form curves and surfaces. The technology is the foundation for Geomenon's new interoperability product, ShapeRight Imperfect interoperability of 3D data is pervasive throughout the CAD/CAM/CAE industry today partly because of problems caused by proprietary file formats, poorly defined data, and missing data. However, the major obstacle to reliable interoperability of 3D geometric data has been the previously unsolvable problem of tolerance adjustment together with a mechanism for revising model connectivity. "We think we've taken a giant step toward enabling truly reliable interoperability solutions" said an enthusiastic Dr. George Celniker, Geomenon's Chief Technology Officer and inventor of both patents. Reliable interoperability products that deliver 100% useable models have significant potential in today's marketplace. The lack of adequate interoperability in the automotive supply chain alone is estimated to exceed $1 billion per year, according to the National Institute of Standards & Technology (Interoperability Cost Analysis of the U.S. Automotive Supply Chain). The greatest cost contributors in this estimate are the resource costs necessary to repair and re-enter data files to make them suitable for downstream applications. Geomenon plans to introduce beta versions of the company's ShapeRight software based on these patent applications in Q2, 2003.
